Put a clawback in the insertion order

How to run thisTraffic5 steps
GuideAffiliate clawback clause checklist · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

A hot affiliate is a row on the chargeback table. Getting the CPA back is a sentence in the insertion order. If that sentence is missing, you already paid for the sale that disputed.

Pair: Affiliate clawback clause checklist on Traffic. Naming the partner is a different job: Chargeback rate by cut. Whether a late CB still sits inside the written window: late CB vs clawback window.

What the clause has to name

Who and what offer. Legal name of the partner, or the network publisher ID, and the offer they are running. “Affiliates” as a blob is not a party.

The trigger. A primary chargeback on a sale they were paid for. Say whether an alert refund counts, or only a bank chargeback. If you stay silent, they will argue the alert was a customer-service refund.

The window. Days after the sale, or through the chargeback reason-code clock you can still match. We do not fill a number. If the window is blank, they keep every CPA once it pays.

The amount. The CPA (or revenue share) paid on that sale. Say whether the processor chargeback fee comes back too, or stays on you.

How you take it. Offset against the next payout. If they are gone, an invoice. A handshake after the disputes show up is not an offset.

Notice and evidence. You send the ARN or case id, the reason code, and the order id. They get a short window to dispute the match. Then you deduct.

No blend escape. The clause fires on that partner’s disputes. It does not wait until the whole program is hot.

Re: Clawback on [offer] for [legal entity]

Chargebacks (and, if ticked, alert refunds) on sales you were paid for are clawed back.

The window is [days] after the sale, or until we can still match the dispute to that order.

The amount is the CPA paid on that sale[, plus the processor chargeback fee].

We will send the ARN or case id, the reason code, and the order id. You have [days] to contest the match. After that we offset the next payout, or invoice the balance if there is no payout.

This applies to your traffic. It does not wait on a blended program rate.

Tick each part in the checklist when it is in that insertion order. Then send it before the first payout. File the signed copy next to the partner row.

Related: Chargebacks (the row that tells you who to call), MIDs (the account that still takes the dispute).

Procedure

  1. Name the partner and the offer.
  2. Say the trigger is a primary chargeback on a sale they were paid for.
  3. Write a window. We do not fill the days.
  4. Name the amount and the offset against the next payout.
  5. Send notice with ARN, reason code, and order id. Sign it before the first payout.

Failure modes

  • Paying out, then asking for the CPA back with no clause.
  • Waiting until the whole program is hot before the clause fires.
  • Leaving the window blank so every paid CPA is kept.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

Glossary

Clawback
Taking back the CPA (and, if written, the chargeback fee) on a sale that later disputed. It lives in the insertion order, not in a rate table.
Offset
Deduct the clawback from the next payout. If they are gone, invoice the balance.

FAQ

Can I claw back CPA after a chargeback if the insertion order is silent?
Only if they agree. After the fact is a favor. Write the clause before the first payout.
Does the chargeback-rate table write this clause?
No. That table names the hot partner. This page is the contract that takes the CPA back.
What window should I use?
Type the days you can still match a dispute to that sale. We do not fill a typical window.
