Step-up challenges can abandon the cart
Fraud and 3DS step-ups can stop a sale when the buyer leaves the challenge. Lost sales = challenged × abandon % × AOV. Type challenged, abandon %, and AOV $.
Pair: Step-up abandon cost on Orchestration. Approval change: 3DS lift. Who blocked: fraud block vs issuer.
What you type
Challenged — orders sent to step-up / 3DS challenge in the window.
Abandon % — share that never completed the challenge (export, not a blog).
AOV $ — average order value on that challenged set (or the brand AOV you use for the same window).
Abandoned = challenged × abandon %. Lost sales = abandoned × AOV. Tune rules when lost sales exceed the fraud you stopped — do not invent an abandon chip.
What not to do
Do not invent an abandon percent. Do not mix soft declines into the challenged count. Do not treat completed challenges as free of friction elsewhere. Do not ignore AOV when comparing two rule sets.
