Local acquiring is not the same MID abroad
Local acquiring puts a domestic acquirer / MID in the shopper’s market. Cross-border presentment on a home-country MID is a different fee schedule and often a hotter decline or dispute mix. Do not invent a “local always approves better” chip — type this agreement and your cuts.
Pair: Local acquiring — claim map on Payments. Currency conversion: FX settlement. Cap / split intent: volume allocation.
The fork
Domestic seat in-market. Shopper country matches acquirer country (as the schedule defines). Fees and auth path follow that exhibit.
Cross-border on home MID. Same offer, foreign shopper, home-country MID. Expect cross-border fees and a different issuer mix — measure; do not invent lift.
Multi-MID by country. Each market seat needs its own underwriting, descriptor, and prevention enrollment. Blending ratios across seats hides the hot one.
FX still separate. Even on a local seat, presentment vs settlement currency can diverge — open FX settlement.
What not to do
Do not invent a universal local-approval or fee chip. Do not call cross-border “local” because the site shows a flag. Do not open a local MID to hide a chargeback ratio. Do not skip descriptor / alert enrollment on the new seat. Do not mix DDP duties into acquiring choice.

Procedure
- Name domestic vs cross-border for this market.
- Read the schedule for that seat — invent no fee chip.
- Enroll prevention and match descriptors per MID.
- Keep FX conversion on fx-settlement separately.
Failure modes
- Calling cross-border presentment “local.”
- Inventing a local-approval lift chip.
- Opening a local MID only to hide a ratio.
- Skipping prevention / descriptor enrollment on the new seat.
