The headline discount is not the bill. Public ISO and acquirer schedules still use a short set of names. Map each printed line to one of them before you type dollars.

Pair: MPA fee line dictionary on Payments. Put the dollars in Turn the processing agreement into spendable cash.

Pass-through versus the processor

Interchange and assessments are card-brand pass-throughs. They move when the brands move. Discount is what the acquirer or ISO charged you. On a bundled quote, discount may already swallow interchange, assessments, and auth. On interchange-plus, discount is the markup. Do not add interchange twice.

Named add-ons

Auth is per authorization. Declines still cost money when the schedule is per attempt. AVS is an address check, not a guarantee. Batch is the daily settlement header. PCI is the compliance program or a non-compliance sting if the questionnaire was skipped. Gateway is the connector, not the network. Chargeback is the per-case processor charge when a bank CB posts. Retrieval is the issuer asking for the draft; it is not a CB yet — path map: Retrieval is not a chargeback. 3DS and RDR here are schedule fees for those products. FX is conversion markup. Early termination is the exit charge in the term clause. Monthly minimum is a floor when volume is thin.

None of those percents are filled in for you. Type the exhibit.

The hold

Rolling reserve is not in that add-on list as a fee. Settlement funds get parked against later losses. They may release on a clock. Until they do, they are not spendable. Putting reserve inside “effective rate” hides a cash hole that is not a processing charge.

This only works if

The dictionary is the names on this MPA. PayFac statements often skip interchange as a line. ISO exhibits usually do not. Direct acquiring should match the bank schedule. If a line has no service behind it, do not rename it “discount” to make the waterfall pretty.

Filter the table, tick each printed line, then leave. The waterfall is where the dollars go.

Procedure

  1. Open one statement next to the fee-schedule exhibit.
  2. Filter the dictionary for each printed name.
  3. Mark fee, pass-through, floor, one-time, or hold.
  4. Type the dollars in the waterfall. Ask the ISO about any line you cannot map.

Failure modes

  • Reading only the discount percent.
  • Calling reserve a junk fee.
  • Treating 3DS or RDR dollars as the Chargebacks how-to.
  • Guessing a typical percent for a missing line.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Is rolling reserve a junk fee?
No. It is a hold from settlement. Junk is a named add-on that is not the headline discount. Put reserve in the hold field.
Are 3DS and RDR the Chargebacks how-tos?
No. On this page they are dollars on the fee schedule. Placement and enrollment live on Chargebacks.
What if a line on my statement is not in the list?
Ask the ISO what service it pays for. Do not guess a percent. Sum it into the nearest named field or leave a note and keep it out of “discount.”
