Network token fail then PAN fallback

How to run thisPayment orchestration3 steps
CalculatorNetwork token fallback · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

Network tokens fail. Orchestration falls back to PAN. That hop can cost more. Fallback share = fallbacks ÷ token attempts. Fee delta $ = fallbacks × fee delta per fallback. Type those three.

Pair: Network token fallback on Orchestration. Vault move: vault token migration. Kill vs updater: token kill vs updater.

What you type

Token attempts — network-token auth attempts in the window.

PAN fallbacks — of those, how many fell back to PAN (or clear-PAN) auth.

Fee delta $/fallback — extra fee (or cost) of a PAN fallback vs a successful network-token auth on your invoice.

Fallback share = fallbacks ÷ attempts. Fee delta total = fallbacks × fee delta. Fix token enrollment or accept the bill — do not invent a fail chip.

What not to do

Do not invent a fail percent. Do not mix vault migration into the fallback count. Do not ignore fee delta because the cascade “recovered.” Do not treat PAN fallback as free.

Related: Orchestration, vault token migration, token kill vs updater, retry cost waterfall.

Procedure

  1. Type network-token attempts and PAN fallbacks.
  2. Type fee delta $ per fallback from the invoice.
  3. Fix enrollment or accept the fee delta total.

Failure modes

  • Inventing a fail percent.
  • Mixing vault migration into the fallback count.
  • Treating PAN fallback as free.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

What fail percent should I invent?
