Why underwriters want months of bank statements

How to run thisMIDs4 steps
GuideBank statements for underwriting — claim map · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

Underwriters ask for months of bank statements so deposits line up with the volume, ticket, and MCC story on the application. Orphan PDFs from the wrong entity, or months that do not show the cash you claimed, stall the file. How many months is what this underwriter wrote — often three to six. We do not invent a count. The pack only asks whether you can send them.

Pair: Bank statements for underwriting — claim map on MIDs.

What “match” means

Same legal entity as the application. Personal account for an LLC application is a miss unless they wrote an exception.

Deposits that fit the volume story. If you typed $200k months and the statements show $40k, explain or correct the application — do not hope they skip the PDF.

Processor / PayFac deposits visible when you claim prior history. Blank months with a “we did $X” slide will not clear.

What not to do

Do not photoshop or omit bad months. Do not send a partner’s account. Do not invent six months if they asked for three — send the ask. Do not treat this page as permission to hide MATCH or prior CBs.

Related: MIDs, underwriting pack, personal guarantee, processor questions.

Procedure

  1. Read how many months this underwriter asked for.
  2. Export the business account for that entity.
  3. Check deposits against the volume story.
  4. Tick the pack only when the PDFs match.

Failure modes

  • Sending the wrong entity’s PDFs.
  • Volume on the app that deposits cannot support.
  • Omitting thin months.
  • Inventing a six-month rule when they asked for three.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Why do high-risk processors want 6 months of bank statements?
To match deposits to the volume and average ticket on the application. Three months is common too — send what they ask.
Can I send personal statements for a new LLC?
Usually no. They want the business account for that entity. Ask if they accept personal for a brand-new company — get it in writing.
Is this the same as the underwriting pack?
No. The [pack](/manuals/underwriting-pack) ticks whether statements are ready. This page is why they ask and what “match” means.
