Initial approval is not the rebill rate

How to run thisSubscriptions3 steps
CalculatorInitial vs rebill approval · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

Shopper-present (initial / CIT) approval and later MIT rebill approval are two rates. Reporting only the first is how a continuity brand looks healthy while rebill cash dies.

Pair: Initial vs rebill approval on Subscriptions.

Read the gap

Type attempts and approvals for the first sale, then for stored-credential rebills, on this MID. The calculator shows both percents and the gap in points. A wide gap (about eight points or more) means the rebill path is the hole — not the landing page.

Fix order when the gap is wide: MID health and caps, account updater for hard fails, same-MID soft retries for NSF. Do not buy more trials until rebill approval moves.

What not to do

Do not dump dead rebills onto a second MID to “recover” them. That stacks declines and chargebacks onto a healthier account. Do not call initial “the” approval rate in a board pack.

What this is not

This is not first-try vs net on a cascade hop list — that lives on Orchestration. This is continuity: first sale versus later cycles.

Related: Subscriptions, MIDs, hard-fail recover from updater.

Procedure

  1. Count initial and rebill attempts apart on this MID.
  2. Read both rates and the gap.
  3. If the gap is wide, fix the rebill MID and updater before you buy more trials.

Failure modes

  • Reporting initial approval as ‘the’ rate.
  • Retrying dead rebills onto a new MID.
  • Ignoring account updater on hard fails.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Can I report one blended approval rate for the brand?
No. Initial and rebill are different paths on the MID. Blending hides a dying continuity book.
If initial is fine, why does LTV miss?
Because rebills never approved. The trial looked healthy; the MIT path was already dead.
Should I send failed rebills to a healthier MID?
No. That pollutes a clean account with dead tokens. Fix updater and the original MID first.
