Ask the acquirer about MATCH in writing

How to run thisMIDs4 steps
GuideMATCH letter checklist · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

You cannot search Mastercard MATCH Pro yourself. It is a terminated-merchant file members use. If you need to know whether you are on it, or you want off, you write the acquiring bank.

Pair: MATCH letter checklist on MIDs. On a PayFac, name the sponsor bank first: sponsor bank vs PayFac. Boarding questions are a different job: Ask a high-risk processor in writing. The MCC on an application is a different job: MCC on the MID.

What the letter has to ask

Who you are writing to. Legal name of the acquiring bank. If you only have an ISO or a PayFac brand, find the bank first. They are the member who can query MATCH.

Who you are. Legal entity, DBA, and principals. Those are the names a MATCH record would hold.

The listing ICA. That is the acquirer number that added the record. Ask for it. Mastercard Security Rules §11.4 is where listing ICA and reason code live.

The reason code. Ask which MATCH reason they used. Do not guess from a blog list.

Who added you, and on what date. Member name and add date. A sales-person story is not that.

The 7-day clock. Questions about a listing are to be answered within 7 calendar days. Say that in the letter so the clock is on the page they file.

The 30-day clock. If you want the listing removed, this email is also a removal request. They owe a written answer within 30 calendar days. Skip this line only if you are asking whether a listing exists and you are not asking to come off.

The attachment. If you have the termination or decline letter, put it on the email. They still have 5 calendar days after a terminate decision to add you. A listing can exist before you have heard a rumor.

Records stay searchable for 5 years, then they purge. Waiting it out is not a 30-day plan. Duration and paths only: MATCH duration.

Re: MATCH inquiry and removal request for [legal entity], DBA [DBA], principals [names]

Please search Mastercard MATCH Pro for this merchant.

Please confirm in writing whether a listing exists. If it does, send the listing ICA, the reason code, which member added the record, and the add date.

Please answer these questions within 7 calendar days.

If a listing exists, treat this letter as a removal request and respond in writing within 30 calendar days.

Attached: termination or decline notice, if we have one.

Tick each part in the checklist when it is in that email. Then send it. File the reply with the notice.

Related: Payments (the agreement that named the bank), Chargebacks (a program dump is how a lot of adds start).

Procedure

  1. Name the acquiring bank. Legal entity, DBA, principals.
  2. Ask for listing ICA, reason code, who added you, and the date.
  3. Invoke 7 calendar days for questions. If you want off, invoke 30 calendar days for a removal answer.
  4. Attach the termination or decline if you have it. Send the email. File the reply.

Failure modes

  • Trying a public MATCH lookup.
  • Writing the ISO or PayFac brand instead of the acquiring bank.
  • Asking only “am I on it?” with no ICA, reason code, or clocks.
  • Calling instead of emailing, then having no file.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Can I look myself up on MATCH?
No. MATCH is acquirer to acquirer. Write the bank that holds the license and ask them to search.
Who do I send the letter to?
The acquiring bank’s legal name. An ISO or PayFac brand is not the member that files MATCH.
What if I only want to know whether I am listed?
Still write. Ask for ICA, reason code, who added you, and the date. Invoke the 7 calendar day window for questions.
