Score the next dispute vendor before you buy

A new chargeback vendor is a cost and a clock. It is not a vibe that “we should add alerts.” Score the seat before you sign.

Pair: New chargeback vendor scorecard on Chargebacks. Map what you already own first: prevention stack.

Six questions in writing

Cost named per case. Alert fee, RDR fee, monthly seat, minimums. If they will not write it, you cannot price alert vs fight.

Overlap mapped. Versus Ethoca, CDRN, and RDR you already buy. Two vendors on the same issuer is a double bill, not extra coverage.

Attaches per MID. Not a brand checkbox. The volume MID is the row that matters. See MIDs.

Clock in writing. Hours you actually have. “Near real time” is not a staffing plan. Ethoca is hours. Miss it, get the CB. Work a live case on alert response clocks.

Ratio treatment in writing. Does a worked alert or RDR drop out of primary on this acquirer? If they cannot say, you cannot measure RDR mix.

Turn-off test planned. One MID, one week, measure primary CBs. If nothing changes, you were buying overlap. Only then enroll the rest.

A cleared scorecard is not a contract to roll out everywhere. It is permission to test one MID.

When this fails

Signing a seat because a reseller bundled it. Not asking whether wins drop out of primary. Enrolling a brand instead of MIDs.

This is not a vendor ranking. Public tools do not pick a winner. They name gaps.

Procedure

  1. Tick cost, overlap, MID attach, clock, ratio rule, turn-off test.
  2. Fill the gaps in writing.
  3. Run the turn-off test on one MID.
  4. Only then enroll the rest.

Failure modes

  • Signing a seat because a reseller bundled it.
  • Not asking whether wins drop out of primary.
  • Enrolling a brand instead of MIDs.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

Glossary

Turn-off test
Disable the vendor on one MID for a week and measure primary CBs. If nothing changes, you were buying overlap.

FAQ

The reseller bundled this seat. Can I skip the scorecard?
No. Bundles are how you pay twice for the same alert. Map overlap against Ethoca, CDRN, and RDR you already buy.
What is a turn-off test?
Disable the vendor on one MID for a week and measure primary CBs. If nothing changes, you were buying overlap. Only then enroll the rest.
Brand-level enrollment is easier. Why per MID?
The ratio attaches to a MID. A brand checkbox leaves the MID that takes volume uncovered, or bills you for MIDs that take none.
