Sold is not settled is not in the bank
Sold, captured, settled, and withheld are different cash states. CRM “paid” is none of them by itself. Bid only what cleared after fees and holds — or you scale into a freeze.
Pair: Sold vs settled statement map on Payments. Void vs refund clocks: auth / capture / settle. When an open hold dies before capture: auth expiry / re-auth. Presentment vs settlement currency: FX settlement.
The stages
Authorized / sold in the CRM. The issuer said yes. Goods may ship. Money is not in your bank.
Captured. The batch was submitted. Still not a deposit.
Settled (gross). The acquirer ran settlement for the window. Statement lines start here. Still before holds and many fees.
Withheld / reserve. Cash held from settlement against later chargebacks and fines. Not a fee. Not spendable this week. Days of float from batch to spendable sit on batch to bank.
Fees deducted. Discount, auth, assessments, named junk. Gone.
Net to bank. What hit the checking account. That is the bid floor.
How to use the map
Open one processor statement next to the CRM export for the same window. Name which stage each number is. The gap between CRM paid and bank deposit is the work — not a media ROAS argument.
Fee dollars and the reserve hold also sit in the MPA waterfall. This page is the stage names. That page is the exhibit math.

Procedure
- Open one statement and the CRM export for the same window.
- Name which stage each number is.
- Bid net to bank, not the CRM paid gap.
- Put fee and hold dollars into the waterfall next.
Failure modes
- Bidding on CRM paid as if it were bank cash.
- Calling a reserve a processing fee.
- Comparing different date windows across CRM and statement.
Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ
- Can I bid on CRM paid volume?
- No. CRM paid is usually authorization or capture. Settlement and holds decide what you can spend.
- Is a rolling reserve a processing fee?
- No. It is withheld settlement. It may return later. It is not spendable this week. See the fee waterfall for the hold line.
- Why does settled not match the bank deposit?
- Fees and holds come out between settlement and the bank. Map both lines on the same statement window.
