Soft retry on Primer is not a hard kill
Soft decline codes ÷ all decline codes on one Primer file make PR soft-decline %. Type both.
Pair: Soft-decline share on Payments. Gateway twin: Braintree soft. Processor twin: Auth.net soft. Workflow twin: settlement reject.
Fields
Soft declines — Issuer soft / retryable codes on Primer in the window.
All declines — Soft + hard decline codes in that same Primer export.
PR soft-decline % = soft ÷ all × 100. Widen soft retry / cut hard burns when PR soft-decline % is fat. Do not invent a PR soft-decline chip.
Stops
Skip inventing PR soft-decline %. Skip folding settle-die rejects into soft codes. Skip pasting Braintree or Auth.net decline rows onto a Primer MID. Skip blending processors when one Primer workflow seat owns the mix.
Related: Payments, Braintree soft, Auth.net soft, settlement reject.
Procedure
- Type soft declines and all declines.
- Read PR soft-decline %.
- Seat retry / updater when PR soft-decline % is material.
Failure modes
- Inventing PR soft-decline %.
- Loading Braintree or Auth.net decline rows into Primer inputs.
- Folding settle-reject counts into soft.
Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ
- Is this Braintree soft-decline share?
- Gateway book vs Primer workflow. [Soft-decline share](/manuals/braintree-soft-decline-share) stays on Braintree. Soft / all counts never leave Primer here.
- Is this Authorize.net soft-decline share?
- Separate processor stack. [Soft-decline share](/manuals/authorize-net-soft-decline-share) stays on Authorize.net. Primer owns every count here.
- What PR soft-decline % should I invent?
- None. Source soft declines and all declines from the same Primer decline file.
