RDR fired — why a dispute still shows

How to run thisChargebacks4 steps
GuideRDR fired — next door · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

RDR already accepted liability and refunded under your rule. A later bank line, portal “dispute,” or second debit is a recon job — not a second automatic refund. Name which door the new line is before you touch the card again.

Pair: RDR fired — next door on Chargebacks.

What usually happened

RDR credit still settling. Statement lag. Wait for the RDR refund ARN / credit to post before treating the case as open.

RDR credit failed or reversed. Processor never moved the money. Fix the credit — do not invent a second CS refund on top without recon.

Different door on the same order. Ethoca/CDRN or a primary CB that was never in the RDR rule. Staff that door’s clock. Do not assume RDR covered it.

Customer filed after a partial / wrong-amount rule. Rule hit a different amount or condition. Treat the new CB as primary unless the processor says otherwise in writing.

What not to do

Do not refund twice “to be safe.” Do not ignore a real primary CB because “we have RDR.” Do not mix this case into the RDR mix without knowing the door. Tighten rules on RDR rules after recon, not before.

Related: Chargebacks, store credit vs refund.

Procedure

  1. Confirm the RDR credit on the statement.
  2. Name the new door: lag, failed credit, alert, or primary CB.
  3. Repair credit or staff that door — do not double refund.
  4. Tighten rules only after recon.

Failure modes

  • Refunding twice “to be safe.”
  • Ignoring a real primary CB because RDR exists.
  • Mixing alert doors into the RDR case without recon.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

RDR refunded — can a chargeback still post?
Rare if the rule matched. More often you are seeing a delayed statement line, a failed RDR credit, or a different product (alert/CB) on the same order.
Should I refund again when the bank line appears?
Not until recon says the RDR credit never posted. Double credit is how you pay twice.
Is this the same as the RDR mix tool?
No. Mix is ratio math across a window. This page is one case after the rule already fired.
