Prenote lag can delay first ACH cash

How to run thisSubscriptions3 steps
CalculatorACH prenote lag · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

ACH prenote / verification can run past the planned rebill day. If rebill day falls inside prenote days, delayed cash = cohort $. Type prenote days, cohort $, and rebill day.

Pair: ACH prenote lag on Subscriptions. Return overlap: ACH return vs rebill. Reverse path: ACH return vs card refund.

What you type

Prenote days — days the processor holds / verifies before live ACH debit (typed from the schedule).

Cohort $ — first-rebill dollars waiting on that ACH path.

Rebill day — planned first rebill day from signup (your clock).

If rebill day is inside prenote, delayed cash = cohort and days late = prenote − rebill. Push the rebill or accept the lag — do not invent a prenote chip.

What not to do

Do not invent prenote days. Do not mix card MIT rebills into the ACH cohort. Do not treat a prenote as a settled debit. Do not ignore days late when cohort looks small.

Related: Subscriptions, ACH return vs rebill, ACH return vs card refund, involuntary churn.

Procedure

  1. Type prenote days from the processor schedule.
  2. Type cohort $ and planned rebill day.
  3. Push the rebill or accept the lag when delayed cash is material.

Failure modes

  • Inventing prenote days.
  • Mixing card MIT rebills into the ACH cohort.
  • Treating a prenote as a settled debit.
