ASN is not sellable received
An ASN is a promise. Received and damaged decide sellable. Sellable = received − damaged. Variance % = (ASN − sellable) ÷ ASN. Type ASN, received, and damaged.
Pair: Inbound ASN variance on Stock. Cover clock: receiving is not sellable. Kits: kit component shortfall.
What you type
ASN units — units on the advance ship notice / PO inbound for this receipt.
Received — units the 3PL counted in (gross, before damaged pull-out).
Damaged — of received, units marked damaged / unsellable on that receipt.
Sellable = received − damaged. Shortfall = ASN − sellable. Variance % = shortfall ÷ ASN. Chase the vendor or 3PL when variance is material — do not invent a shortage chip.
What not to do
Do not invent a variance percent. Do not treat ASN as on-hand cover. Do not mix transfer units into ASN. Do not ignore damaged when received looks “full.”
Related: Stock, receiving is not sellable, kit component shortfall, days of cover.
Procedure
- Type ASN units and received units.
- Type damaged / unsellable on that receipt.
- Chase the vendor or 3PL when variance is high.
Failure modes
- Inventing a variance percent.
- Treating ASN as on-hand cover.
- Ignoring damaged when received looks full.
