Upsell attaches are not net cash
Upsell attaches look like revenue until refunds land. Net attach $ = (attaches − refunds) × AOV. Type attaches, refunds, and AOV $.
Pair: Upsell attach vs refund on Subscriptions. Trial keep: trial convert vs refund. Decline: upsell decline.
What you type
Attaches — upsell units accepted in the window (CRM / marketplace).
Refunds — of those, how many refunded inside your keep window.
AOV $ — average upsell order value you use to price the net.
Net attaches = attaches − refunds. Net attach $ = net × AOV. Refund % = refunds ÷ attaches. Cut or rewrite the upsell when net $ is weak — do not invent an attach chip.
What not to do
Do not invent an attach percent. Do not mix front-end declines into refunds. Do not count trial converts as upsell attaches without splitting. Do not ignore AOV when comparing two upsells.
