Guarantee copy is not a chargeback defense

How to run thisRefunds4 steps
GuideGuarantee vs chargeback language — claim map · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

Guarantee language on the PDP, ads, and checkout (“money-back,” “risk-free,” “cancel anytime”) is a promise to the shopper. It is not a Visa or Mastercard defense packet. When CS refuses a refund the listing promised, buyers escalate — often as not-as-described, services-not-provided, or cancelled-recurring. Align the promise with the refund window table, or change the copy.

Pair: Guarantee vs chargeback language — claim map on Refunds.

What to check

PDP / ad promise vs CS script vs billing descriptor story.

Trial / cancel-anytime language vs actual MIT stop rules.

“Risk-free” that still requires a restocking fee or sealed return — say so, or expect NAS.

What not to do

Do not tell finance that a guarantee “covers” the chargeback ratio. Do not refuse a promised refund and then fight NAS with a thin packet. Do not invent issuer-day counts for a money-back window. Do not confuse this with personal guarantee on a MID application (personal guarantee).

Related: Refunds, refund window policy, Chargebacks, reason codes.

Procedure

  1. Line up PDP / ad promise with CS honor path.
  2. Fix cancel-anytime vs MIT stop.
  3. Train CS on the refund-window table separately.
  4. Do not claim the ratio is “covered.”

Failure modes

  • Treating guarantee copy as chargeback coverage.
  • Refusing a promised refund then fighting NAS.
  • Confusing with personal guarantee.
  • Inventing issuer clocks from ad days.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Does a 30-day money-back guarantee stop chargebacks?
No. It can invite returns — and fuel NAS / “not as promised” disputes if CS refuses after the ad said easy refund.
Is this the CS refund-window table?
No. [Refund window policy](/manuals/refund-window-policy) is state → action. This page is how guarantee language feeds dispute reasons.
Should we remove all guarantees?
No. Write what you will honor, match CS, and do not invent network protection from ad copy.
